COVINGTON, Ky. - Covington’s newest police officer is a Marine who served as a patrol officer here for almost three years during a previous stint in the city.
Tyler Tipton was sworn in this morning by Mayor Joe Meyer during a short ceremony in the Covington City Commission chambers. His hiring was approved by the Covington Board of Commissioners on Jan. 14.
He will be back patrolling Covington’s streets in the next couple of weeks, Police Chief Rob Nader said.
“Welcome back, and we’re glad to have you back,” Nader said, presenting Tipton with his new badge.
Tipton served as a police officer in Covington from August 2016 to May 2019 and “did great work with us before,” Nader said. “He worked for another agency for a while but decided to come back home, and we’re glad to see him return.”
While on active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps, Tipton worked as an ammunition technician, with responsibilities that included disposing of old and/or dangerous ammunition with explosives.
“You don’t need me to tell you that Covington’s Police Department is one of the best around, and we pride ourselves not only on our high standards but also on our strong relationship with the community,” Meyer said after swearing Tipton in.
