Tour Details

City Parks & Greenspace:Covington loves green space! Spend a half hour with Recreation Specialist Cindy Swegles and visit one of the most beautiful park areas in the Northern Kentucky & Greater Cincinnati area. Covington's Devou Park offers over 700 acres of preserved history and modern day improvements and amenities. Whatever your pleasure...a leisurely stroll on paved trails, an adventurous hike along a nature trail, lunch under a picnic shelter, an incomparable view high above Covington, Cincinnati and Newport; Devou Park has it all!

 

Licking River Greenway:Trails in the urban core? You bet! The continuous green corridor in the Licking River valley continues to expand. With nature trails and murals, you can't help but see an entirely different side to the City. Programs and Strategic Projects Manager Natalie Gardner will lead you on this tour of green discovery and tell you more about the master plan.

 

Roadworks and Engineering:Ever wonder how a road is constructed, or how the placement of a stop light is determined? City Engineer Mike Yeager will show you around the City and let you see it through an Engineer's lens. Learn how the City's levy system protects us from flooding and see some projects in action on this tour.

 

Development:What is economic development anyway? Assistant City Manager of Development Larisa Sims will take you on a tour of the City's most significant economic development projects. See what's happened in the last year and learn what's to come while Larisa explains the process for such projects and the time it takes to go from idea to reality. You will be amazed by the many catalytic projects happening in the City.

 

Fire Department:Fire Chief Dan Mathew will take you on a tour of Fire Department stations, tell you about the department's rich history (this year marks its 150th anniversary) and let you see firefighting equipment up close. You may be able to board a fire truck and sit in the driver's seat!

 

Police Department:Tour with Police Chief Spike Jones and see the inside of the Covington PD headquarters. Chief Jones will tell you the history of the police department and show you the department in full operation. He's also got an impressive collection of Police Department artifacts on display, including old photographs and early 20th century badges.

 

Department of Public Improvements:Ever wonder how the City is maintained on a day-to-day basis? This Department is what keeps the City running! From trash management and leaf pick up to general maintenance and fleet management, DPI Director Rick Davis will take you on a fascinating tour of the Department of Public Improvements and show you the behind-the-scenes glimpse of how the City is maintained.

 

Legal Department:How does an idea become law? Assistant City Manager/City Solicitor Frank Warnock will show you a beginning and end to the process. Tour the City commission chambers and legal department. Meet Maggie Nyhan the City Clerk too!

 

Rules Apply:Tours will be offered on a first come, first served basis. One tour offered per department listed. A total of seven winners will be asked to choose which tour they would like, based on availability - the first identified winner will have seven options and the seventh identified winner will have one option. All tours must be booked during working hours Monday through Friday 8:30a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tours are estimated to last between 30 minutes to an hour. Department Heads acting as tour guides will use a City vehicle for transportation.
